Dr. Andre Oboler is the founder and CEO of the Online Hate Prevention Institute (OHPI), an Australian charity that tackles all forms of online hate including antisemitism, Islamophobia, misogyny, homophobia, anti-Indigenous racism, and the spread of far-right extremism. Within OHPI he oversees efforts to monitor hate content in social media through the work of experts and technology, advises platform providers and governments on technical and policy responses to improve online safety, and supports the efforts of civil society organisations to effectively tackle harmful online content.

He serves as an expert member of the Australian Government’s delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and on IHRA’s Committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust denial. He previously served as a co-Chair of the Israeli Government’s Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism.

Within the IEEE Dr. Oboler serves on the Global Public Policy Committee, which advises the IEEE Board of Directors and oversees public policy work within other parts of IEEE. He has served as Vice Chair of the IEEE Australia Council, and within his local section as Membership Development Coordinator and Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee.

Dr. Oboler began his volunteering in the Computer Society as Vice Chair, then Chair, of his local chapter. He went on to serve as a Country Coordinator, Region 10 Coordinator then Chair of the Society’s global Geographic Activities Committee. He served as a Distinguished Visitor, then as Chair of the Distinguished Visitor Program Committee. He chaired the Student Awards Committee and later the Awards and Recognition Committee.

Dr. Oboler’s Ph.D. in Computer Science, supervised by Prof. Ian Sommerville at Lancaster University (UK), examined Software Engineering process improvement approaches for computer science research. He holds an Honours Degree in Computer Science and a Juris Doctor from Monash University (Australia). He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Political Science at Bar-Ilan University (Israel) and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
