Stefano Zanero is an assistant professor at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, where he has worked since 2008 and from which he received a PhD in computer engineering. His research group, which focuses on systems security, has been funded by the EU and by NATO with different grants totaling €750,000. He is a regularly invited speaker at international events and conferences, including the popular Black Hat Briefings (where he now sits on the review committee). Zanero also cofounded Secure Network, a start-up that is one of Italy’s leading penetration testing and security services companies. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers.
Zanero has been a long-time volunteer in IEEE and the Computer Society. He has been vice-chair and chair of the Italy chapter of the Computer Society, and currently is the Membership Development Committee representative for Region 8. He is also active on the Region 8 committee, overseeing technical publications.
He has served since 2008 on the international board of directors of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), a 10,000-member strong organization of security professionals. Additionally, he chairs ISSA’s yearly international conference. Zanero is a Senior Member of IEEE, ACM, and an ISSA Fellow.
